The below is a letter from a candidate for Student Government Association President, Ray Lubus. Lubus ’21 is a junior History major in the Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences. You can read Lubus’ opponent Anna Adebambo’s address here.
Hello, my name is Ray Lubus. I am currently in my junior year, as a history major. I am currently working as Vice President of Roger Sherman Debate Club. I am also an active member in the Programs Active Council, also known as PAC. Lastly I am now a SGA senator who is running to be your student body president. I have initiatives I want to work on as President.
My biggest concern is helping all students reorganize from this semester’s current crisis. I want to push to make sure that our current graduating seniors do have the graduation they will remember. That means we as university should work to reschedule the Spring Commencement and make it still be as meaningful as it has been every year. I also want to help all continuing students to make sure they are able to effectively return to campus and recover from this crisis.
The biggest concern for returning students is that they might be coming from a financial crisis due to lost wages from the coronavirus. I want to work as a SGA to continue to fund emergency aid for all students, while making that aid more known on how students can access it. I do not want any student to feel that if they have any financial hardships, that they cannot still be a Westconn student. There is aid for them and as the student government president, I want to prioritize making it know it’s available to all students. I would like to end saying I hope anyone who has any student issues next semester will reach out to me if I become president. I will always prioritize any issues you may have as students and will address them with school.
Thank you in advance and I hope I can earn your vote on the 20th.
