The below is a letter from a candidate for Student Government Association President, Anna Adebambo. Adebambo ’21 is a junior double major in Digital and Interactive Marketing and Financial Accounting. You can read Adebambo’s opponent Ray Lubus’ address here.
Hello WCSU,
I am Anna Adebambo, current SGA Vice President of Internal Affairs (VPIA) and candidate for SGA President. Currently, I am a junior double majoring in Digital and Interactive Marketing and Financial Accounting. I have served as an SGA Executive Board member, Committee Chair, and Senator throughout my three years in the organization. Outside of SGA, I have served as President of Western Marketing Association and Treasurer for both the Western Marketing Association and Speak Truth to Power.
As SGA VPIA, I introduced the use of SurveyMonkey, allowing SGA to reach students more directly. The SGA has been able to provide follow-up information and resources to respondents more easily. We now have data to refer to during decision-making and when rendering a recommendation to administration.
In addition, I contributed to the establishment of this year’s functional SGA website, complete with updates, governing documents, and a member portal for members to access links and resources remotely. After research, I introduced the use of Socrative, a cloud-based student response system, as SGA’s electronic voting system to boost integrity when voting on motions.
As a Senator and Committee Chair, I served on the Elections, Finance, Governing Documents, Graduating Class Affairs, Senate Review, Strategic Planning, Student Philanthropy, Student Relations, and University Senate Student Life committees. I stepped up to being a SGA Committee Chair for Governing Documents in Fall 2018, where I guided new SGA members, in understanding our governing documents. I then introduced their recommendations to the organization throughout both years of being a Senator and VPIA.
I am running for SGA President because I want to empower the student body to advocate for issues that affect them and widen the platform to do so. There are many times where I have found that students don’t know about resources they have access to – it’s time to change that. Fragmented communication within the WCSU community prohibits growth on both individual and institutional levels. The top three priorities I have and will continue to take on is SGA’s use of technology, interaction and engagement between SGA and the students, and focusing on student issues such as student organization funding, food insecurity, and academic misadvisement.
Those forced to take on additional tuition payments due to being misadvised – I speak for them.
Your SGA friends (Representatives, Senators, and Executive Board Members) who want to take initiatives to new channels – I listen to them.
Students who are on the verge of dropping out because of an outstanding tuition payment they can’t pay – I push for them.
Students who want to grow, learn, and self-advocate – I stand with them.
The WCSU Student Government Association serves as the official voice of the WCSU student body. I strive to elevate the organization and its impact, empowering students to succeed beyond their years at WCSU.
Thank you for taking time to get to know me. Please feel free to contact me at adebambo001@wcsu.edu regarding issues you would like me to address.
Sincerely,
Anna Adebambo
