The Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team found victory over UMass-Darthmouth with a scoreline of 76-65 after trailing in the first half yesterday in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
This win brings the Colonials to an overall record of 15-6 and 8-2 in conference play.
The home team started with a strong 13-3 lead led by junior Megan Ronaghan who finished the game in double digits scoring 29 points.
The Colonials were down 37-28 deep in the second quarter but managed to pull back two points right before the break. The first half ended 37-30 in favor of the Corsairs.
The third quarter was a different game for the Colonials. Freshman guard Tashai Price evened the score by sinking three shots bringing the score to 37-37.
Western began to find their rhythm and started to pull ahead in the fourth quarter. With 6:24 left on the clock the score was 63-56 in favor of the Colonials. Samantha Smith hit a jumper to widen the scoreline to 69-58. Western continued their stride and the contest ended at 76-65 with a victory for the Colonials.
Four players for the Colonials scored in the double digits with Price and Smith both having the most at 13 points a piece . The Colonials will be back on their home court on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against visiting rivals Eastern Connecticut State University.
