With the rapidly changing health care environment, Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) has redesigned and reopened its admissions into the Masters of Health Care Administration Program, a program constructed to create leaders for the next generation in health care. 

The university had to suspend the program for 18 months to modernize courses for the rapidly changing health care environment.

“Health care is the fastest growing sector of the economy,” said Professor of Management Dr. Gene Buccini, who with Dr. Tesch, Professor of Management, said to update courses.

All together with Dr. Stan Bazan, Professor of Management, worked with MHA alumni, health care executives, and current students, to layout the curriculum effectively with courses that focus on the health care environment, health care informatics, and negotiation.

“The people managing in this environment need the skills to be successful.” Dr. Buccini said.

With the emergence of Obamacare, merging of hospitals to larger systems, and role changes of health care professionals, the program will prepare health care managers to deal with these changes.

The MFA will also continue its strong collaboration with the Western Connecticut Health Network.
