Bridgeport, Conn. – To get the evening going on September 31st, Mt. Joy took the stage with their track “Lemon Tree” at Sound on Sound 2023.
The band consists of five members that help to make up the indie rock group that has taken the music scene by storm, although they are from Philadelphia originally and have roots on the East Coast.
Bay Ledges, Matt Quinn, Jackie Miclau, Michael Byrnes, and Noah Kahan, who will be taking on the 2024 iteration of Sound on Sound known as the Soundside Music Festival on September 27th and 28th, help to bring this group to life.
Chill music filled the air in the afternoon that allowed for listeners to have a fun and breezy experience before the night that would be ahead with many more acts. Their setlist proved to match this lighthearted energy with a cover of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and “Crazy” by CeeLo Green.
After letting loose with some covers, the band played a track that is very central to who they are as a group, “Astrovan.” Getting to hear one of the first tracks that really helped to solidify who the group is and what type of music they would strive to create was really an honor as a listener during the festival.
Quinn and Cooper wrote the track when they were only in high school with no idea what the future of the band had in store and how far they would be able to come. The group would go on to release three studio albums, with their most recent having been Orange Blood in 2022.
One thing that comes across the most when watching this group perform is the way that they are able to form an emotional connection with the audience and truly bring you on an emotional journey through their music with the element of live performance.
This group is no stranger to talking about the importance of peace and celebrating the people in our lives, as they have been huge advocates against violence within their careers and have supported multiple charities surrounding brutality. Overall, the band brings a feeling of peace when you get to hear their tracks.
It’s very clear that the band has a lot of experience playing festivals and knows how to create an unforgettable atmosphere. With past festivals in the exact same year, including Boston Calling and WonderWorks Festival, the group was able to share their musical magic across many states over the course of 2023.
Over the course of their nine-track setlist, it was clear to see how much dedication they pour into their time on stage and why they continue to be able to thrive during their performances at so many venues and different festival lineups.
The band finished off their set with the track “Silver Lining,” a heartfelt closing that left festival goers with the lyrics “And tell the ones you love you love them. Teach only what you know, and, oh. You better know it well,” rang out across the open field.
Connecticut once again got to experience the sound of Mt. Joy, as they played a show at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater on September 26th.
